How to Take Care of a Reborn

Do you love babies but are either too young, not ready, or not able to have children of your own? Do you want a very real-feeling “parenting simulation” that is also fun? If this applies to you then you should consider a reborn doll. Reborn dolls are dolls that are made professionally to look like real babies. They can be expensive but it is all worth it.

Prepare for your reborn as you would a real baby. Make sure you are prepared before you buy your reborn doll, just like a real baby. Buy real clothes or order them off the Internet, blankets, diapers, bottles, pacifiers, blankets, stroller car seat – both toddler or infant, fake formula (this can be made with fabric softener or glue and water, it’s up to you) wipes, toys, etc. However, do not feel the need to buy over–priced items as a reborn isn’t real and doesn’t have feelings. Also plan for what doll you want. Do you want a girl or a boy? Do you care if the main body is cotton in exchange for a cheaper price? Be prepared to spend at least $90.
Unbox the baby! When he/she arrives, pick out a name and fill out the birth certificate if the baby comes with one and doesn’t have a name yet and if it is not already filled out for you, and if they did not, you can print one off the internet. Take your baby out of the box, and remove their clothing to observe the doll and see if there are any marks or scratches on them. Then, redress them. Take some photos with your baby.
Care for the baby. Choose whether you want to change the baby to make sure they are clean after their long trip, or to prepare a bottle for them, or cover them up in a warm blanket to take a nice long nap. Whatever you choose, be prepared to repeat it every day. Spend some time holding the reborn and sitting with him or her, as this will make you feel more confident and comfortable with your doll.
If you really want to take it seriously and have the time for it, create a schedule for your baby. Having a schedule for Feeding times, expected changing times, nap times, play times.
Be comfortable showing your baby off to friends and family if you enjoy doing so. There’s nothing wrong with having a little boast and if you want to have him or her all to yourself, that’s fine too.
Take your baby on a walk through the neighborhood in a stroller with a pacifier in their mouth and all snuggled up in the stroller. Also, if you will feel confident enough to do it, It’ll make you feel like a real mother to a real child. If you want, instead you can place him/her into another stroller with blankets and toys with them.
Q & A
Q. Would I get made fun of if I took my reborn in public?
A. You may face hecklers, but if your reborn doll looks very realistic, most people will just think it is a real baby.
Q. What do you put in a diaper bag?
A. Besides diapers, you could pack clothes, wipes, a blanket, and anything else you would pack for a baby
Q. Should I take my baby out in public?
A. You may take your reborn doll out in public if you are comfortable with that.
Q. What is the age range for people having a reborn?
A. You can never be too old — but you might be too young. Reborns are pretty fragile compared to other toys, so the minimum age would be around 8.
Q. Is it safe to make it fake food?
A. You can make your reborn doll fake food out of paper or clay, but you should not fill it with real food because it is not alive
Q. Home do you clean a reborn doll?
A. Just clean its arms or legs if it has a cloth body. If not, use a dampened cloth and rub gently.
Q. How do I travel with a reborn?
A. Simply pack a small bag with some of the clothes the reborn generally wears (the amount will depend on your trip length), some diapers, faux formula, and other little things you use at home, along with a blanket and sleeper. Use caution when you are traveling with your reborn, it’s best to put them in their original packaging so they don’t get damaged. When you arrive at your destination, set up a little sleeping area with the blanket and sleeper and bag full of your reborn’s items.
Q. Is it enjoyable to care for a reborn as a real baby or is it hard work?
A. It is enjoyable to care for the reborn as a real baby but it also is hard work. It is enjoyable because you can create memories together and practice to be a real mother or father but it is hard work because you need to care for it every day. If you don’t want it, donate it!
Q. Can the doll go out in the cold?
A. Yes, it can. Perhaps wrap it up as you would a real baby if you’re caring for it as a baby. If transporting it, just place in its box, basket or other carrying item to protect it, and take with you.
Q. Do reborns have to be changed like a real baby?
A. Many don’t, but if you buy a reborn that has a tube in its stomach, then yes. You can also pretend to attend to a baby doll in this manner if you like.
